Can you stand the excitement? Meghan McCain is in Philadelphia today! She's apparently rallying all those Young Philadelphians around the flag. I thought it would be fun to go see her today, except...you can't find
out about her appearance on the McCain web site (which doesn't list any events until October 8th at this writing on October 5th). I'll spare you the link to the blogette.
On a semi-related note, interesting article in the Philly Inquirer (our beloved Inqblot) today about the Air War in Pennsylvania, now hotting up to be the biggest in the country, and certainly the most expensive. Obama's doing the full court press here, lining up to buy spots on the Eagles games while McCain is buying time during Oprah. (No, I am not making this up.) Here's the sobering news: a really good slot on the Eagles broadcast goes for $30K for a 30-second spot. A thousand dollars a minute. You can get a reasonable primetime slot on a non-sports program for $5K.
So, our Obama fund-raising page is at just over $3200. Can we see what we can do to get that from maybe 3 seconds of Obama ad to 5 seconds? Thank you for your support. Click on the "Our Obama Fund Raising Page" link to left or here, or if you're maxed out to Obama, try America Votes or the DNC.
Update on 10/7
Wow, Meghan McCain went to the Art Museum, not the book store as originally advertised, apparently with an all-press retinue to avoid contact with actual voters while getting a little press face time. Let's think about this for a moment: what kind of campaign is it where the candidate's unemployed daughter has significantly more press interaction than the Vice Presidential candidate? I mean, it's not even CLOSE! Meghan McCain not only has her, um, blog, but she does press interviews at EVERY STOP SHE MAKES. And the Governor of Alaska? Not a single gaggle.
I would also like to put a new entry in the dictionary next to either the definition of 'irony' or 'clueless':
A graduate of Columbia University who received her bachelor's degree in art history, McCain spent her time at the museum sharing her interest in art with the children of local supporters, who also got the chance to tour her father's campaign bus, the Straight Talk Express.
A room filled with Cy Twombly paintings based on "The Iliad" and painted in protest of the Iraq War seemed to hit home with McCain.
"I have two brothers in the military. I know what it's like to send a brother off to war," she said. "For me, it's about keeping them safe. I think my father and Sarah [Palin] are the ones to do that."
